Flange Repair Using Overlay Technique
One of our frequently used repair methods is known as an overlay—ideal for damaged flanges. This technique often results in quicker turnaround and lower cost compared to installing PTFE or tantalum sleeves.
Recently, our team completed an overlay repair on a 48" ID column section. Using a custom mold to match the exact column radius, the overlay was fabricated on-site in just half a day. The column was successfully reassembled and returned to service the very next day—minimizing disruption and reducing overall expense.
Emergency Repair: 30,000-Gallon Vertical Storage Tank
In another high-stakes situation, GTI was called in to evaluate damage to the top head of a one-of-a-kind 30,000-gallon vertical storage tank. The extent of the damage went far beyond the manway opening, and with no spare tank on site—and an estimated 18-month delivery time for a replacement vessel—time was of the essence.
Our engineering team collaborated closely with production and maintenance personnel to analyze process data and formulate a plan. After performing ASME Code-compliant welding, our team fabricated a customized repair solution that fit through the existing manway.
